America CARES

Due to a misunderstanding about what the hospital hours are, I wasn't able to get my mono blood tests done today, and I won't be able to do them until Monday. How annoying.

Anyway, while I was driving around today I saw an amazing this, but it really is a sign of the times.

Parked in the parking lot of a local Wal-Mart was a pick-up truck, and there was some sort of metal frame on the bed of it. Resting on the metal frame was a rather realistic-looking missile. Of course it wasn't real - it was far too small. At least I hope it was fake.

On the side of the metal frame was a crude, hand-painted sign. It said:

America CARES!

Condones
Attacks and
Retaliations Against
Every
Scumbag Terrorist

**************

Well... okay. Obviously it was too much of a strain on their tiny brains to get an anagram that actually worked.

I have to admit that I am rather up in the air about how the U.S. government should proceed now. While I definitely think that the people responsible for the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11 should be punished and punished harshly, I'm not sure that going to war with Afghanistan is the best way to do that. For all we know, that's what Bin Laden WANTS us to do!

Besides, have you seen the news reports from Afghanistan? Those people look totally beaten, like they haven't got have two pennies to rub together. How could we hurt them any more than they have been already? The war with Russia then the ongoing civil war have probably destroyed nearly everything worthwhile they have.

You know, I get the distinct impression that a lot of people in other countries a murmuring a fervent prayer now: "Please God, don't let the United States do something dumb!"

Actually, I think a lot of Americans are thinking that, too.
