Playstation!

Thanks to some checks that have come in from my father's estate, I have a little extra cash. So today I took Lily to one of our local multi-media stores to get something I know she wants very badly - a SONY Playstation 2.

It's sort of a birthday/anniversary present for her. However, our one year anniversary is still over two weeks away and her birthday is over two months away. The reason why I'm getting it now is that Lily is going to be starting a new job soon, so her free time will shrink dramatically. I want to get it for her now, while she has the leisure time to enjoy it.

With presents like that I usually try to make a surprise out of them, but in this case, I'm glad I didn't. There's various accessories you need to buy with the PS2 that I wouldn't have known about without Lily along.

For example did you know that you have to buy a separate memory card or else you can't save games on the system? How cheesy is that? There really should be a memory card included when you buy the PS2.

I should also point out that this purchase also brings us into the modern world - the PS2 doubles as a DVD player.

Well, I don't have to tell you that Lily is tickled pink with her new toy. We bought two games: a road race game for me and Final Fantasy IX for her. We fooled around with the road race game, but it didn't seem to be much fun. I think that we don't quite understand how to work it.

On the other hand Lily understands the Final Fantasy game perfectly. She's playing it right now, and handing all her characters and their pages and items with such skill and speed it's like she was doing it all her life. If that's how fast you need to be to win that game, I'm a goner.

You know, if we start playing any 2 player games, she's gonna be kicking my ass in a major way.
