Another Cell Phone Danger

Cell phones. I find them obnoxious. About seven times out of ten when some fool is driving like they are not paying attention, they are talking on the phone while driving. Well, as long as they are going to be reckless knotheads why not go all the way? Why not watch a MOVIE while driving?

I don't have a cell phone although Lily has suggested that I get one. Besides the expense, I really don't like the idea of someone being able to get a hold of me anytime. I like the thought of being away from the telephone, that incredibly invasive instrument, when I am out driving or whatnot.

While my brother Harry was up visiting I noticed that his girlfriend was constantly calling him on his cell phone, intruding on conversations he and I were having. Maybe I was reading the signals wrong, but she seems to have him on a pretty short leash. Watching this long-distance slavery in action made me even LESS desirous of having a cell phone.

Today I saw another reason not to have a cell phone.

I decided to stop for lunch at a nearby Taco Bell. Yes, yes I know it's bad for me. It's one of my petty vices.

Anyway, the fellow who took my order was also running the drive-through window through a headset. In the middle of getting my soda he burst out laughing.

Apparently some tool in a Lexus was so focused on his phone conversation that he drove away without picking up the food he had just ordered. According to the guy at the counter that sort of thing happened a lot.

I can just imagine this guy back at the office saying - "Remind me not to eat Mexican for lunch any more - an hour later you're hungry all over again!"
