Maybe Day

Hey lookit! I got quoted!!

Well, it's the first of May, and you know what they say about May. You don't?

Well, then.

"Hooray, hooray it's the first of May! Outdoor fucking starts today!" - Robert Anton Wilson and Robert Shea, The Illuminatus Trilogy

Ironically today it's too bloody hot to go outside and do it. It's like 85 degrees and humid. It's like the dog days of August. Oops, I guess there IS such a thing as global warming!

But I'm not thinking about dogs today, I'm thinking about hammies. I haven't talked about the little guys much here recently. I got over a nasty cold a few days ago and while I had a cold I was staying far, far away from the hamsters. They catch colds and respiratory diseases so easily. I remember when I was in high school I almost lost a house full of hamsters to a nasty cold I had.

Anyway, I mentioned before that I might try and breed Linda again. She had an unsuccessful litter a few weeks ago and she seemed to have bounced back from it pretty well. So I bred her again, and the babies were due today, actually early this morning. Well, I checked her this afternoon, and there were no signs of any babies. Looks like we'd struck out again.

But about a half hour before midnight I coaxed Linda off her nest with some sunflower seeds, and sure enough there were some pink and wigglies - newborn baby hamsters.

There weren't very many of them, maybe three or four, but litters from older mothers are usually small. However just so long as there is a positive number, I am happy. This is only the second little of hamsters I've had since I started this journal. I'll let you know how they grow as the days progress.

And the litter of hamsters reminds me that this journal is going to have its first anniversary soon. I have no idea of how I'm going to note the occasion, but I'm astonished I've made it this far.

Baby Hammies!!!!!!
