Nothing To Say

I forgot to mention it, but the main reason that Harry did most of the talking when he was visiting yesterday was that I really COULDN'T talk.

You see, I have a terrible case of laryngitis, perhaps the worst I've ever had in my life.

Sad to say, I caught it from Lily. While her case was practically gone in a day, mine seems to be hanging around. It started day before yesterday and it seems to be even worse today than it was yesterday.

It's kind of weird. I feel fine physically except for a very slight sore throat. However, when I try to talk it's another story. My voice is reduced to a squeak. When I talk I either sound like Mickey Mouse, or a kid going through puberty with his voice perpetually cracking.

What's worse is I don't really have any control over what my voice does. It can come out as a raspy whisper or a shrill warble. We went out for lunch yesterday and Lily did most of the talking to keep from frightening the waitress.

When we got home, Lily insisted that I talk as little as possible to preserve what little voice I had.

Do you folks have any idea how difficult it is to convey the meaning of the following sentence entirely in pantomime?

"Passover begins at sundown today."

It's not easy, believe me!

However, Lily was very nice to me, bringing me hot herb tea and generally babying me.

Hey, maybe I should pretend to be sick more often!

Except I'm not pretending, damn it all!

This evening we watched one of Lily's favorite videos, "The Stand" which was a TV mini-series based on a huge Stephen King novel.

The basic plot of the movie, at least the 2 hours we were able to see, was that 99.99% of the earth's population dies of some sort of super-cold/flu developed by the U.S. Government.

While I was watching it, I was asking myself the question: is this really what I should be looking at when I have a cold myself? In the movie, when anyone coughs, it generally means that they'll be dead in the next scene.

Well, if there isn't an entry tomorrow, you'll know what happened.
