This Hours That Go By

Once again I find myself falling behind in this diary. The reason for that is that there are specific entries that I want to go in specific dates, and it takes a little while for me to compose them to my satisfaction. A unexpectedly long entry like the one of the 12th will trip me up.

However, by continuing to work on the journal I'm rediscovering my voice again. Finding subject material and writing here are getting easier again. I was just a little rusty.

To update on some old business, Lily and I did not get called back to be extras in that movie. Of all the people that Lily knew who tried out, only one person got a part. Oh well, the odds were obviously not in our favor anyway.

And as I predicted a few days ago, BarrysWorld finally went under. The online game Planetarion had to jump to a new server, and there was much chaos.

Talking to one of the better informed players I found out that it would have just taken a mere $500,000 to keep BarrysWorld going for another week or so. Let me check my wallet... no sorry, I can't quite swing it this week.

Anyway, there was a big mess after the game was moved to the new servers, and the problems are ongoing. First, half the game pages didn’t work, and then the pages worked but the turns stopped running. Then the turns started going again, but they went too fast, giving some players a nasty surprise I'll bet. You leave your planet alone for a couple of hours and suddenly you have invaders swarming all over it.

While all this stuff going on, one of my galaxy-mates popped up on the galaxy's IRC channel with the following plaintive request:

[WSB]Wonder[MS] one thing. we still get money for this hours that go by?

Of course he was just asking if our planets were going to continue to get resources while the turns were all mixed up, but it almost sounds like a philosophical question: what DO we get for these hours that go by?? You got me, pardner. As near as I can tell we get doodly-squat!

By the way, I think the rather quaint way that Wonder phrased the question was just a hasty typographical error. While it sounds like the sort of mistake a non-English speaker might make, if I recollect correctly Wonder is from Toronto.
